Onsite Learning FAQs
We receive many questions from our prospective students regarding
the style of teaching we utilize and what type of materials we use
to train. Our staff has compiled the following list of frequently
asked questions in order to help our visitors understand how we
teach and what we use to get the job done.
- Will I receive any printed materials
like books or handouts
- Is there homework
- How long are the classes
- Will there be anyone else in the class with
me
- Is this private tutoring
- How much training cost
- Will I receive a degree from your company
- Do you offer other services like job placement
- What time of the day do you offer lessons
- What is the age range of your students
- How many classes may I take
- Are there any tests
- What is a typical lesson like
Will I receive any printed materials
like books or handouts?
Generally the training we do does not require books or handouts.
Since there are "help" files included with all the software
we train our students to use, why would we need anything else. We
teach all our students to master these help files and how to use
them. We feel that if a student is taught properly how to use these
files, they can better answer their own questions after the instructor
has left.
Is there homework?
Our instructors will determine whether a student needs more practice
in order to master a lesson or concept at the end of a lesson. Most
of the time we find our students have come to us in order to learn.
and therefore they take it upon themselves to practice as much as
possible. After all, learning something you want to do is fun!
How long are the classes?
Our classes last for one hour. At that time the instructor will
ask if the student feels comfortable with what they have accomplished.
If the instructor is available he or she can then continue the lesson
for an additional fee, or schedule another lesson at the earliest
convenience. The reason for this is simple. New students tend to
become confused when too much new information is presented. It is
better to learn 3 new concepts well than 5 that are just OK. Computer
training builds on itself.
Will
there be anyone else in the class with me?
We offer two types of training classes for two different types
of individuals. We offer training classes to companies and businesses,
and we offer lessons and instruction to private individuals. Generally
individuals are private one on one situations. Business usually
train groups of people at the same time since it is more cost effective.
We do offer group rates for private sessions for adult living facilities
and retirement communities.
Is this private tutoring?
Typically tutoring implies preparation for a test or some type
of exam. Typically our clients are not students looking for help.
They are either trying to land a new position that requires a new
skill set or they are in business already and have been asked to
learn a new task which requires additional training. The other half
of our clients are adults and children interested in learning how
to operate their new computer or how to make a website. In either
case we do not consider our instructors to be tutors.
How much does it cost?
Our one hour private lesson for individuals costs $40.00/hr - additional
time when available is billed at 15.00/ half hr.
Corporate instruction begins at $35.00/hr per person for groups
of 5 or more. Groups of 4 or less $40.00/hr per person.
Will I receive a degree from your company?
Onsite Learning does not offer degrees or certificates.
It is up to the individuals receiving the instruction to apply for
and test for their own certifications. We are not an accredited
college or university, nor do we offer certification for any of
our classes.
Do you offer other services like job
placement?
Onsite Learning does not offer any job placement at
the moment. We do however have plans to in the near future. We must
first work out relationships with the companies we do training for
now.
What time of the day do you offer lessons?
We are a flexible company providing in home or office training.
Our instructors are required to be available Mon-Fri 9am - 5pm est.
to handle all incoming appointments during business hours. However,
you may make other arrangements once you have met your instructor.
Generally, weekend classes, and evening training sessions are also
available according to the availability of your instructor.
What is the age range of your students?
Our students range from ages 15 - 75 so far! People of all ages
love the computer. We are now more than ever teaching retired people
how to surf the Internet and use an e-mail client safely without
worry. Since the computer is such a cost effective way to communicate
and have fun at the same time, more and more seniors and retired
folks are giving it a try.
How many classes may I take?
There is no limit to how many classes you may take from our instructors.
We do however find that once a student learns the fundamentals of
the computer, and how to retrieve answers from the help files, that
they no longer need us after only a few lessons.
Are there any tests?
There are no practical exams at the end of a lesson or training
session. There is simply no reason for one. Our students are here
to learn. They don't let us go until they know everything they came
here to learn, and feel confident about the knowledge they have
gained.
What is a typical lesson like?
A typical training session involves the following:
- brief interview to determine what your current skill level
is at and what you wish to learn from this lesson
- 10 minute introduction to the material about to be covered by
the instructor
- 5 minute hands on demonstration by the instructor on the material
- the remainder of the hour is devoted to hands on time for the
student. Drills, exercises, practice examples, and instructor
questions.
Once the student feels confident about what they wanted to accomplish
the rest of the lesson may be spent covering any additional information
the student might need. Should the student feel the need for more
help, the rest of the session will be spent covering the information
until the student feels comfortable.
